As we get closer to the midterm elections, it becomes clearer what Kevin McCarthy has in store if he becomes Speaker of the House should the GOP win in November.

One of the most shocking things the far-right has in store is repealing the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, a law that gave Washington D.C. self-government.

Friends, D.C. is a majority people of color city that has successfully governed itself for nearly 50 years. It is a fiscally responsible, self-governed city that does not need the federal government intervening in its affairs.

So, let’s call this out for what it is: a far-right power grab. This is completely unnecessary and simply a means to exercise power over a largely sovereign American city.

With the midterm election inching closer, now is the time to unify and ensure Kevin McCarthy does not lead the far-right to victory. We’ve set up a $5,000 end-of-month fundraising goal to have all the resources to defend our majority this year. Will you join us today?

Far-right Republicans have also signaled that if they were to take the House, they will hold D.C. Mayor Bowser, a Black woman, accountable for what they believe to be “mismanagement” of D.C.

Team, the only people that should decide whether the mayor of any city needs to be held accountable are the voters by heading to the ballot box, not Kevin McCarthy and his far-right faction.
