Team, A study released this year estimates that climate change will cause America’s flooding losses to jump more than 26% by 2050, while disadvantaged communities bear the brunt of the economic burden. Most shockingly, this study assumes that nations will reduce planet warming emissions by the targets agreed upon at the recent COP26 climate summit, meaning the need to move more aggressively against climate change is greater than expected.
Findings also showed that while all disadvantaged communities are at risk, it is Black communities that will see their flooding costs increase at a much faster rate than impoverished white communities. This is largely because of geographical reasons. The South is home to a large Black population and is expected to experience more hurricanes as temperatures continue to rise. Folks, Republicans may not take these studies seriously given their complete opposition to President Biden’s climate agenda, but Future Forum Dems certainly do.
