The eyes of the world are on Ukraine in anger, sadness, and fear about Russia’s war of aggression.
New York City is home to one of the world’s largest populations of Ukrainians, and our hearts are with the people of Ukraine, the many Russians who are bravely protesting this war, and with Ukrainian Americans watching in horror from our shores.
Now is a good time to support international or local refugee resettlement organizations like HIAS, which is working with a local Ukrainian partner Right to Protection to support internally displaced people and refugees with resettlement. HIAS, the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society [[link removed]] , was founded in the 1880s to assist Jews fleeing pogroms in Russia and Eastern Europe, and has become one of the leading organizations helping refugees from conflicts all around the world.

War and militarism, of which our country is all too guilty of as well, tear apart the fabric of our society, destroying lives, displacing families, and shaking up our economies, making it harder for those already struggling to afford basic goods and services.
But still too, in moments like this we see unparalleled courage and empathy. May we hold on to and grow that solidarity.
Take care,
Brad
P.S. As Bill McKibben rightly reminds us [[link removed]] , the best way to stick it to authoritarian petrostate leaders is to end our reliance on oil and gas, and make us all safer.
