This latest report comes at an alarming time when the fate of the Clean Water Act hangs in the balance.
John, pharmaceutical pollution has become a global threat, and both the World Health Organization and the UN say it is “one of the biggest dangers to humanity.”
Scientists measured the concentration of 61 active pharmaceutical ingredients in over 1,000 sites along 258 rivers around the globe. The results were shocking: only two places were found completely unpolluted, and dangerous levels of antibiotics were found in 1 out of 5 testing sites.
Clean water means more than just safe drinking water and the health of aquatic ecosystems. It is fundamental to the long-term health and safety of everyone.
This latest report comes at an alarming time when the fate of the Clean Water Act hangs in the balance.
The Supreme Court is ruling on a case that will determine what precisely constitutes “waters of the United States,” and every sign points to this ultra-conservative court limiting the definition. It is very telling and worrisome that this ultra-conservative court agreed to hear this case even before Biden’s EPA finalized their regulations.
With antibiotic contaminated waters posing a major threat to our health and safety, we can’t have the Supreme Court curb the Clean Water Act’s ability to protect us as it was designed to do.
SEEC Members of Congress will be ready to fight that fight if they have to, but if we lose only a small number of SEEC members in Congress, there won’t be the numbers to ensure the restoration of climate and environmental policies.
Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration. But if you'd like to receive fewer emails, we understand. You can click here to only get our most important messages, or you can unsubscribe.
