From digital ads to meeting folks on the ground, we know communicating directly with voters is how we win. But funding for these programs — and paying the staff who run them a honest, liveable wage — isn’t cheap.
When our district was redrawn late last year, thousands of new voters were brought in — many of whom did not know the many progressive issues Ro fights for in Congress each and every day.
In order to reach those voters and make sure they know Ro, it’s going to take a lot of work both virtually and in-person. The San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose tri-city area — the TV market that covers our district — is routinely one of the top 10 most expensive markets in the country. So trying to run ads to reach new voters can be financially impossible for a grassroots-funded campaign like ours.
We also can’t forget that historically, midterm elections have a much lower turnout rate than presidential election years. This means we not only have to reach and mobilize new voters, but also convince irregular voters to turnout for this important election.
And, of course, we need to remember what we saw in states like Virginia and New Jersey last November. Republicans are fired up and turned out in record numbers. They know that historically, the dominating party in a presidential election year usually loses their majorities in the following midterm election — and the GOP are doing all they can to ensure that happens again this year.
This is why it’s even more important that we do everything we can to reach, connect with, and mobilize Democratic voters to turn out this November.
How do we do that? By sharing our progressive vision for this country far and wide, so every single voter unstands what Ro and our movement are fighting for each and every day.
