I started my career at Planned Parenthood as an organizer in Nebraska and Iowa. It was truly hard work, but I met some inspiring people during that time. And I learned so much about what it takes to really fight for health care and reproductive rights in this country.

One of the most important lessons is this: We have to be ready to fight for every state, every community, every patient. Even in places where the deck seems stacked against us and the odds of winning seem long. Especially in those places.

That's why it was so heartening to see a powerful outpouring of support for Texans when the S.B. 8 abortion ban went into effect there. Now, Idaho and Oklahoma are moving ahead with copycat bans that could cut even more people off from care — and we need that same passion, outrage, and determination.

The Supreme Court has already allowed Texas to continue to eliminate abortion access for millions of people. Similar bans are on the fast track in Oklahoma and Idaho. This is a crisis that is growing worse by the day, and the only way we will have the resources to push back is if Planned Parenthood Action Fund supporters like you step up.

Make no mistake — these attacks on abortion access are connected. Every new ban, burden, and barrier puts essential health care out of reach for more people, and S.B. 8 has especially harmed patients with low incomes, parents, and Black and Brown communities.

Many Texans have been forced to leave the state since last September to access abortion. Some of those who can afford the time and expense of travel have gone to Oklahoma, and I'm so proud of the Planned Parenthood health centers there that are working hard to meet that need.

But now Oklahoma is looking to pass the same kind of ban, so where are patients supposed to go?

This is why solidarity matters. This is what I mean when I say we can't turn our backs on people in any community. The truth is, we can't protect our health and rights anywhere unless we are willing to fight for them everywhere.
