I’m thrilled President Biden nominated Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to be
the first Black woman on the Supreme Court of the United States.
Of the 115 justices who have served on the Supreme Court bench, 108 have
been white men. There has never been a Black woman on the bench, and there
have only been three justices of color in the court’s entire history.
This nomination is historic — but we can’t rest for a single second. Soon,
the Senate Judiciary Committee will conduct a confirmation hearing. Then,
the full Senate will take a vote. [ [link removed] ]Can you join me and other
progressives in calling on the Senate to immediately confirm Judge Ketanji
Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court by adding your name to our petition?

Judge Brown Jackson served as a clerk for federal judges appointed by both
Republican and Democratic Presidents — including Supreme Court Justice
Stephen Breyer — and brings deep experience on the federal bench, having
served on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and then
the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit since 2012.
Throughout her career, Judge Brown Jackson has embodied one of the highest
principles of American law — that everyone has the right to due process
and legal representation. As a public defender, she represented those who
could not afford to hire a lawyer. As Vice Chair of the Sentencing
Commission under President Obama, she worked to alleviate harsh and unfair
sentences for those convicted of drug crimes.
And as the first Black woman and first public defender to serve on the
high court, Judge Brown Jackson will bring a never-heard — and sorely
needed — perspective to the bench.

seeing her confirmed. Join me in urging the Senate to confirm Judge Brown
Jackson to the Supreme Court without delay.
In solidarity,
Pramila
