URGENT:Fossil fuel leasing on public lands is destroying the planet.

We need to shut down dirty, destructive fossil fuel extraction on the public lands and waters we share and enact permanent protections before we hit a point of no return with climate change.

PROTECT PUBLIC LANDS >>

Dear Supporter —

It's been six months since the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released its landmark Climate Report showing that we desperately need to limit the temperature rise to the 1.5C threshold.

Since then, President Biden has taken some important steps to reducing oil and gas leasing. And yet, since he took office, he has approved more oil and gas permits per month than Trump did in any given year during his presidency.

Biden promised the American people meaningful climate action. That begins with ending fossil fuel leasing on public lands and waters. But more importantly, we need strong legislation to permanently protect these lands from future threats. With only 12% of U.S. lands under environmental protection1, and with Trump threatening to run again in 2024—we need to act fast. That's where you come in.

The first step towards halting the climate crisis is stopping carbon pollution at the source. That means protecting public lands from fossil fuel extraction.

Climate change is widespread, rapid, and intensifying. Yet the Biden administration continues to allow fossil fuel companies to drill and frack lands that should be protected. That means more carbon in the atmosphere, more wildlife driven from their homes, and more pollution choking the skies and poisoning the air we all breathe. It doesn't have to be that way. We can protect our shared public lands, slow the pace of warming, and avoid the widespread climate disasters and major shifts in weather causing havoc around the world.

The IPCC report underscores what all the latest climate disasters have shown us about how much this crisis is worsening. But it also tells us that we can still avert the worst of the crisis. And to do that, we must take big and bold action now.

That's why we're going all out: working with a broad coalition to protect 30% of our lands and waters by 2030, going to court (and winning) to protect lands, pushing legislators, and mobilizing our grassroots with unprecedented public support for protecting lands and communities.

These changes won't happen overnight. That's why we need your support as a monthly donor, to keep us in the fight for the long haul. With your support, I am confident we can build a brighter future and halt the climate crisis in its tracks.
