WATCH: South Carolina senator SHUTS DOWN anti-COS opponent
Legislative hearings aren't always explosive, but when they are, Convention of States sponsors take down anti-Article V opponents in epic fashion.
This time around, South Carolina Senator Bill Garrett took on a League of Women Voters representative who opposed the Convention of States Resolution.
It quickly became clear that, as with most anti-COS lobbyists, she didn't understand the first thing about Article V or the Constitution.
First, she demanded that a Convention of States vote by state population, but Sen. Garrett pointed out that that requirement isn't in the Constitution. Furthermore, no historic state convention has ever voted based on state population. It's always been one state, one vote.
She then proposed that Congress, not the states, should propose amendments. As Sen. Garrett pointed out, Congress can't be trusted to propose the amendments we need.
"If Congress would just take care of these issues for us, ma'am, we wouldn't be here talking about it," Sen. Garrett said.
