Dear Free Software Supporter,

This year's LibrePlanet: Living Liberation is now only a month away, and we are getting ready to present another fantastic event to you. Registration opened just a few weeks ago and, today, we're sharing all of our confirmed talks with you, so that you can start planning the sessions you won't want to miss on March 19 and 20! We look forward to welcoming free software enthusiasts, activists, tinkerers, and newcomers from all over the world to the online conference.

This is the third edition to be held exclusively online, and this year we are exploring the theme "Living Liberation." Whether you have been using free software for years, write your own programs, or have only just started your journey to freedom, every day you have the chance to say "no" to the abuses of proprietary software, big or small, and in doing so choose to live liberated.

Besides our opening keynote, Marleen Stikker, and our Sunday opening keynote Hundred Rabbits, we have a schedule chock full of carefully selected talks by both regulars and newcomers. The schedule also holds the ceremony for the annual Free Software Awards of 2021, and a third keynote, to be filled by the FSF. Invitations to the associate member meeting will be sent out separately.

We know you won't be able to see every single one of the sessions, but make sure to put these highlights on your list for attending live, or for later, when we publish the sessions in podcast and video form.

  • Anjadev Momi is taking a stand against the duopoly of proprietary smartphone platforms (e.g. Google's Android and Apple's iOS) today in Sxmo: freedom on mobile devices through simplicity and hackability. Sxmo is a simple free software mobile interface that you can hack to fit your needs.

  • LibrePlanet newcomer Greta Goetz will use her talk Retracing digital freedom as pattern learning for life to illustrate a variety of different course components that could be introduced to model steps towards digital freedom.

  • Former FSF chief technology officer Ruben Rodriguez Perez is giving an introductory dive into Virtual Reality in his Hacking my brain: Free Virtual Reality implementations and their potential for therapeutic use.

  • Philosopher and GNU Emacs contributor Protesilaos Stavrou will be demonstrating how Emacs enables him to work and compute in freedom. In Living in freedom with GNU Emacs he shares his story of coming to the free software movement as a non-programmer, only to end up a mainstay of the Emacs community through his blog posts, videos, and patches to the program.

And there is more -- so much more -- goodness in this year's line-up. You can also already submit your prerecorded lightning talk by uploading it to our server.

No registration is necessary to access the event. However, registration helps us prepare for the event, and it provides you with some benefits! It is very useful in anticipating the amount of server space we need, or as we plan the number of volunteers we need for things like moderation.

We will continue to make minor changes and additions to the schedule as preparations continue, but you'll find no workshops in the schedule this year. But not to worry, we had a record number of workshop submissions, and to make sure we get the most out of all sessions, and are able to offer it to more people, we decided to do a series of LibrePlanet workshops after the conference.

Volunteer

The LibrePlanet 2022 team is working hard to create an interactive, fun, and social experience for the fully free event by using multiple channels, like IRC, Jitsi, and BigBlueButton. If you want to help the organization of the event by volunteering at the event, or use your bug-fixing skills to fix up our fully free conference space LibreAdventure, then you can go to our issue tracker, and get involved!

Seeking sponsors

LibrePlanet cannot exist without the support of the community. If you or your company would like to sponsor or exhibit at LibrePlanet, have a look at this year's prospectus, and email [email protected] for more information.

Your support will help sustain, energize, and inspire the free software community. Sponsoring provides you, and your organization, with a unique opportunity to demonstrate commitment to free software and engage with hundreds of legal and policy experts, developers, students, activists, free software and technology enthusiasts, and potential employees via our virtual exhibitor hall.

You don't have to wait to start discussing sessions and ideas around LibrePlanet -- join the discussion mailing list, the IRC channel at #libreplanet, and the wiki community now. Finally, we hope you'll help us spread the word about LibrePlanet 2022: please blog or microblog to let people know that you'll be there, using the hashtag #libreplanet.

See you in a few weeks at LibrePlanet!
