Dear Concerned American,
As you sit down to file your taxes this year, imagine an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agent standing right behind you, watching your every move to ensure even your small transactions are being filed and taxed correctly.
And I hate to say it, but this is not just a wild nightmare spun up by conspiracy theorists.
Legislation has already passed the House of Representatives to spend $80 billion to hire 87,000 new IRS agents.
The IRS wants the power to tell you what you owe before you even fill out your tax return, and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen wants to give the IRS the power to review everything that you spend or earn that adds up to $10,000, which would cover every single person in the United States.
While the economy crumbles, inflation skyrockets, and many Americans struggle to provide for their families, the IRS already has a new power to crack down on payments made for what people sell on eBay or buy through PayPal or pay their friends through Venmo, so they can make sure they're squeezing every penny out of hardworking taxpayers like you and me.
Our leaders are elected to help the people they represent, not target them for trying to make a living!
This is an egregious example of government mismanagement by the IRS, which is the most powerful and dangerous government agency, at a time the economy can't afford to be ignored, and unfortunately, it's far from the only example.
The notoriously problematic IRS has come under fire for everything from proposing facial recognition in its systems, to being nearly impossible to contact via phone, to taking months beyond the promised time to process tax returns.
But rarely are issues addressed and improvements made.
That's right, your hard-earned dollars are being ripped from you just to be put back in an incredibly broken system that only wants to squeeze every drop possible from your bank account.
The fight against reckless government spending and abuse is arguably one of the toughest battles our country is facing today, especially when we are up against the most liberal, big-spending Congress and White House in recent memory.
And let me tell you - there is no better group than Citizens Against Government Waste to lead this critical fight.
We've been cutting waste in Washington for the past 38 years.
In fact, for every dollar contributed to Citizens Against Government Waste, we've generated more than $9,000 in waste cuts!
Our success is only because of patriots like you. With more than one million members and supporters, we're America's #1 taxpayer watchdog group, and that means politicians must listen to us.
While some Americans are still waiting to receive stimulus checks they were promised over a year ago but never received ...
While the national debt hits an incomprehensible $30 trillion ... I won't stand for this any longer, and I know you won't either.
Our government is never going to look at itself in a mirror unless we hold one up to it, and our country's problems won't be fixed until we do so.
It's time to hold our politician's feet to the fire and let them know we're sick and tired of the waste that Washington churns out every single day.
Your gift will go directly to education, research, and action on the biggest money-sucking black holes Washington, D.C. has to offer.
From our "Congressional Pig Book" to our research-backed newsletters and articles, we'll let you know what to look out for, who you can't trust, and where you can make your voice heard.
And if you partner with us today, we will make sure that that instead of the government telling you what to do, you will tell the government what it can and cannot do.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Sincerely,
Tom Schatz
