Dear Friend,
Almost 4 weeks ago Metrobus drivers at WMATA’s Cinder Bed Road bus garage in Lorton, Virginia, went on strike. Like most Metro workers, they are union members of ATU Local 689. Unlike most Metro workers, they are employed by a private contractor, Transdev and are paid nearly $12 less per hour than public sector workers, with negligible benefits. WMATA hired Transdev to lower costs on the backs of workers and unsurprisingly they have refused to negotiate a fair contract, forcing drivers to go on strike.
WMATA has the power to end this impasse by putting pressure on Transdev to get serious and agree to a fair contract. We MUST show WMATA that DC stands with Metrobus drivers in this fight! Get a group together and join the picket in Judiciary Square.

This strike is not just against a bad employer but against reckless privatization and for good middle class jobs. I hope to see you on the picket line.

PS. Save the date and make sure we pack the room for WMATA's next board meeting, Thursday November 21 from 10:00 - noon. We'll be there to tell the WMATA board they need to get Transdev to the table and ensure good jobs across our transportation network. Be there and invite your friends!
