The Border is Still in Crisis
Texas ranchers are feeling the disastrous effects of Biden's open-border policies. Illegal immigrants cross through their ranches almost every day — destroying fences and damaging property. Many ranchers live in fear of being on their own property.
The border crisis gets worse every day under Biden's inept leadership, and it poses a growing threat to safety in Texas communities.
As your Lt. Governor, I continuously hear concerns about securing our border. I share those same concerns, which is why in 2017, I banned sanctuary cities in Texas. I have increased our border security funding to the highest levels in Texas history.
This year we will be spending over $3 billion to help secure our border and build the wall because the federal government refuses to do the job. I approved funding to build the wall, and I created the Texas Senate Committee on Border Security, which will oversee the funding and policies of Texas' effort to secure our border.
As long as I am your Lt. Governor, Texas will continue doing everything possible to strengthen our border and ensure the safety of Texans.
A Big Day In East Texas
The Rusk State Hospital was built in 1880. The community has been wanting to tear down the run-down building that for decades looked like something from a horror movie. Those with mental health issues who aren't fit to stand trial or those who have been convicted with mental health issues are sent there by the courts.
Business leader Jim Perkins and Senator Robert Nichols invited me for a tour about 4 years ago. It was clear it needed to be torn down and a new hospital was needed. It was just awful.
I helped Sen. Nichols get the legislature to provide the funding. We then expanded the funding to rebuild or refurbish other state hospitals that were in horrendous condition. They have been in terrible condition for decades.
Today the last beam was lifted. It is a construction tradition to memorialize that moment.
I was honored to be there and later to be given a key to the city. I said we were going to get it done and hit the funding, but the people who deserve the credit are Jim Perkins and Senator Nichols.
We need to have more beds for those arrested with mental health issues — many are dangerous to our communities and to themselves — and we need to take some of the burden off of our county jails.
The next region I will try to get funding for new mental health facilities is in the Amarillo/Panhandle/West Texas area. The closest one now is in Wichita Falls and is always full.
I have always wanted to be on the other side of the bank counter. This week, I got to be a teller checking $100 bills in Jacksonville at an Austin Bank.
A Campaign Event with Donna Campbell
I was proud to join Sen. Donna Campbell, MD, for an event in San Marcos last Thursday. Sen. Campbell is fiscally conservative and has a proven record of standing for limited government. With her help in the Texas Senate, we will continue delivering conservative legislation for Texans. Vote early for Donna Campbell!
The Democrats are trying to defeat me at the ballot box because we keep turning conservative policy into conservative legislation, and they will stop at nothing to defeat me in 2022. I hope I can count on your financial support of $5-10-25 or more today.

Sincerely,
Dan Patrick
