Today, President Biden made a historic announcement: Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson will be the first Black woman ever nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Her story is one of someone who never gave up. Her parents were the first in their families to go to college, both graduating from HBCUs and both going on to be school teachers.

Judge Jackson herself has led an incredible career. She’s served as a public defender, as Vice Chair of the U.S. Sentencing Commission and as a clerk for Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, who has been a mentor to her. When you look at Judge Jackson’s record of confirmation, she's received bipartisan support every single time.

As I serve on the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, I look forward to working with my colleagues, both Democrats and Republicans, on the upcoming Supreme Court nomination hearing -- and I certainly look forward to meeting with Judge Jackson.
