Learn more about Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.

Dear Friends,

After discussions with Senators across both political parties and input from legal experts, President Biden found Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson at the end of the process. Judge Jackson comes from a wealth of experience and has already been confirmed three times by the Senate. It will be up to the Senate once again to ensure that our land’s highest court will reflect the richness of our nation.

Over the span of 232 years, the Supreme Court of the United States has seen 115 judges serve on the bench. In this time, there has not been a single Black woman nominated to the highest court in the land. Today, President Biden has announced that the Supreme Court will finally have the opportunity to look more like the people it serves.

We ask that you join us in supporting this historic nomination and Judge Jackson, as she stands before the Senate. You can do so by signing up at the link below. If you know others who would also like to support Judge Jackson, please do share the link and/or this newsletter!

In addition to this announcement, President Biden will be giving his State of the Union speech next week. The President will outline ways that his administration has built our country back better, as well as what he hopes to accomplish going forward. Please join us on Tuesday, March 1st to reflect and look forward as a nation.

Best,

Meet the Honorable Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson
* Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson was raised in Miami, and went on to study government at Harvard University. She then attended Harvard Law School, where she served as the supervising editor of the Harvard Law Review.
* Judge Jackson’s family exemplifies a true American success story thanks to hard work and determination. Her parents went to segregated schools and experienced the Jim Crow South as kids, but through hard work, they went to and graduated from college and became public school teachers. Eventually, her father went on to earn a law degree too. And now their daughter can become the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court.
* Judge Jackson comes from a family of police officers and worked as a public defender. She has also served on the bipartisan US Sentencing Commission and as judge on the District Court and D.C. Circuit Court of Appeal. She would be the first public defender to serve on the Supreme Court.
* Judge Jackson clerked for Justice Breyer, where she learned the great rigor through which Justice Breyer approached the work and his willingness to work with colleagues of different viewpoints. She will bring that experience and the same approach to bear on the Supreme Court.
* Judge Jackson has been confirmed by the Senate three times, twice unanimously.
* Former Speaker Paul Ryan praised her when she was nominated for District Court in 2012. “Our politics may differ, but my praise for Ketanji’s intellect, for her character, for her integrity is unequivocal,” he said. “She’s an amazing person, and I favorably recommend her consideration.”
* President Obama called her an “unwavering voice for justice and fairness” when he nominated her to the U.S. Sentencing Commission.
* DNC Chair Jaime Harrison stated that “Judge Jackson will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Court. Her experience as a public defender will add a vital perspective. In short, Judge Jackson will live up to the legacy of Justice Breyer and the other qualified jurists that have served and continue to serve on the Supreme Court.”
