[ [link removed] ]Katie Porter for Congress
John,
Today is the one year anniversary of the House passing the Equality Act, a
bill that would expand the protections of the 1964 Civil Rights Act to
prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
A year after Katie Porter and Democrats in the House passed the Equality
Act, it still hasn’t passed in the Senate. We need 60 votes in the Senate
to turn this bill into law, but Republicans are standing in the way of
protecting Americans from discrimination.
More than half of US states do not have laws that protect LGBTQ+ Americans
from discrimination. We know that members of the LGBTQ+ community face
discrimination when they do things like apply for a mortgage, leaving them
with higher interest rates and paying thousands of dollars more than other
families. In many states, this type of discrimination, along with
discrimination when hiring or in schools, is perfectly legal.
The Equality Act can’t wait. [ [link removed] ]Sign Katie’s petition telling the Senate
to pass this legislation so that LGBTQ+ Americans are protected under the
Civil Rights Act.
