I don't often send you an email personally, but I'm reaching out today because this simply cannot wait. Russia's invasion of Ukraine risks displacement and humanitarian suffering on a scale not seen in Europe since World War II.
 
 
 
 
In this moment of unimaginable fear and suffering, we must step up and show the people of Ukraine that they are not alone. That people around the world — people like you, John — will not look away in their moment of need.

I can't stop thinking about the men, women, and children in Ukraine who are experiencing this nightmare firsthand. The hypothetical invasion discussed in news articles last week pales in the face of the all-out war we are seeing today.

Ukrainian cities are being bombed from the air, tanks are rolling down the streets, and families are desperately seeking safety in bomb shelters, subway stations, across borders, and anywhere else they can find it.
 
 
 
 
Right now, I am asking you to make an emergency donation to the IRC, to help families affected by conflict in Ukraine and other crisis zones worldwide.

Over 100,000 people are already reported to be displaced internally within Ukraine and thousands more are fleeing over borders into Poland, Romania, Moldova and other European states.

The IRC is on the ground in neighboring Poland, preparing to respond when and where we are most needed. Our teams are assessing humanitarian needs, connecting with local partners, and mobilizing resources to provide critical support to civilians forced to flee their homes.

John, I wouldn't be writing to you right now if the need wasn’t incredibly serious.

Already, because of this invasion, the world will bear witness to innocent deaths and massive displacement inside Ukraine and across Europe. The humanitarian implications could reach across Europe and around the globe.

We don't know what will happen next, but we know that families in Ukraine — and in crisis zones around the world — need humanitarian assistance today.
