friend,

Through research and organizing, UnKoch My Campus has identified widespread gaps in university gift acceptance policies that allow inappropriate donor influence and fail to hold institutions accountable to the common good.

University funding policies are more relevant than ever. Between the recent faculty vote at Brown University to delay the decision on the Koch-funded Center for Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) pending an improved gift acceptance policy, Sunrise GW’s campaign urging the university to prohibit Koch funding at George Washington University, and the student-led effort to prevent the Koch network from influencing Simmons University, the present moment demands a renewed focus on the funding policies required for these campaigns and others to succeed.

We are pleased to announce the release of our updated higher ed model funding policies document. It includes an in-depth analysis of the strategies used by the Koch network to gain university influence through coercive funding agreements and unpacks the strategies used by students and faculty to fight back. Four model policies are offered for use, supplemented by helpful guidance for determining which model policy is the right fit for your university.

Koch’s policies strip power from the people. Our policies seek to give it back. Check out our new university donor policies that would increase faculty oversight and transparency. This report is an indispensable tool for any effort to protect universities from the influence of dark money.

In Solidarity,

The UnKoch My Campus Team

UnKoch My Campus is a project dedicated to disrupting corporate influence on campuses nationwide by equipping campus activists with education, skills, and ecosystems of solidarity. The Koch network is leveraging its donations to colleges and universities to bolster its corporate agenda to halt action on climate change, put hundreds of thousands of people in prison, deny millions of people healthcare, and strip rights and wages from workers globally. We're building a mass movement of young people who are dedicated to disrupting this harm.
