Rig Zone ([link removed]) (2/23/22) reports: "Following Russia’s aggression on Ukraine escalating, the American Energy Alliance offered U.S. President Joe Biden a drastic set of measures to offset the impact of the conflict on the U.S. energy supply. The American Energy Alliance describes itself as the country’s premier pro-consumer, pro-taxpayer, and free-market energy organization. The AEA President Thomas Pyle issued a statement ahead of President Biden addressing the nation and contemplating a proper reaction to a 'blatant act of military aggression against Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin.’ 'It’s past time for President Biden to recognize the strategic importance of American energy production by reversing his decisions to shut down our domestic natural gas, oil, and coal industries. His senseless pandering to the green left has helped foment the very conditions
that have given Vladimir Putin confidence that his war on Ukraine will be met with little resistance from the U.S.,' Pyle said...According to the AEA, President Biden should immediately approve the Keystone XL pipeline, lifting his blockade of the U.S. – Canada border and allowing safe and secure transport of oil from our closest ally...According to data provided by the Alliance, in July of 2021, the U.S. received twice as much oil from Russia as we did from Alaska. With the Alaska Pipeline running at less than 25 percent of its capacity, AEA said that it was time to ‘fill it back up and make America more secure’...'This list is by no means all-inclusive. It is, however, the type of signal that President Biden needs to send to the world to stop the decline of American energy security, and ultimately of America herself.'"

It's not really that complicated.

(2/24/22) column: "Ever since last year, when Vladimir Putin began preparing for an invasion of Ukraine, President Biden has tried to deter him...Nothing worked. Negotiations failed. So-called "deterrence through disclosure" had no effect. The threat of punishment carried no weight...Yet sanctions aren't enough. The record is clear: Sanctions make a point, but they rarely achieve their goals. The American president can no longer pretend that economic coercion alone will do the trick. A grand strategy is required to make Putin's invasion and possible occupation of Ukraine as painful for him as possible, to stop him from expanding the war, and to reestablish deterrence...Biden must abandon his energy strategy. Nothing less than a total reversal of his approach is necessary. Certain times require a reevaluation of priorities and a reorganization of values. The global crisis that Putin has set in motion is such a moment. Putin tends to lash out when gas prices are high. Lowering these costs
will not be easy. It will take time. And the only effective means of lowering the price of energy is increasing its supply. Biden must embrace oil and gas exploration. America was energy independent just a few years ago. The American president must do everything he can to make us independent again. While he's at it, he needs to blanket Europe with liquid natural gas (LNG) facilities, call on the German government to reevaluate its attitude toward nuclear power, and ask the U.S. Congress to subsidize new nuclear plants here at home."

When you are relying on sanctions to fight Putin but continue to buy Russian oil at $100 a barrel, you might not be hitting the mark with your sanctions.

(2/23/22) reports: "The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy will hold a first-of-its-kind roundtable with some of the nation’s leading scientists on Thursday to discuss the urgent need to combat the climate crisis and to counter arguments for delaying climate action. The event, which has not previously been reported, will bring together a diverse group of 17 climate scientists, social scientists, engineers and economists from 11 states and the District of Columbia. Jane Lubchenco, a marine ecologist who serves as OSTP deputy director for climate and environment and who ran the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration during President Barack Obama’s first term, will lead the discussion...Those visiting the White House on Thursday include Michael Mann, a climate scientist at Pennsylvania State University who is known for creating a 'hockey stick' graph of rising global temperatures, and Naomi Oreskes, a historian of science at Harvard University whose 2010 book
'Merchants of Doubt' explored how a handful of high-level scientists denied the dangers of tobacco smoke and global warming...OSTP was rocked by scandal on Feb. 7 when Eric Lander, Biden’s top science adviser, resigned as director after an internal review found that he bullied and demeaned staffers. Lander apologized for mistreating subordinates in a note to staff, and Biden on Feb. 17 tapped social scientist Alondra Nelson to be acting director of the office."
