Disgusted by attacks on queer & trans youth in Texas and Florida? Get monthly action alerts on what you can do to pass the Equality Act to reverse these horrifying policies.
Hi John,
When we tell young people it’s still legal to discriminate against LGBTQ folks in more than half the country in public spaces, schools, homeless shelters and jury selection, their jaws drop.
When we tell them the Equality Act is a piece of legislation that would ban LGBTQ discrimination nationwide, their eyes light up.
When we tell them that:
- the House of Representatives already passed the Equality Act,
- President Biden supports it, and
- there is pressure building on the Senate to act, young people ask, What can we do to help?
Introducing youth4equalityact, a new initiative we’re launching today! This team of young people, ages 14-24, will receive monthly action alerts, the latest news on what’s happening in the Equality Act debate, and how we can bring this legislation over the finish line for President Biden to sign into law.
Look, national equality legislation is needed now more than ever. Just this week, Texas announced a horrifying policy where they would investigate parents for child abuse if they supported their transgender child's decision to transition. In Florida, lawmakers proposed legislation to require teachers to out students to their parents. And in 27 states, LGBTQ youth can be refused housing or denied access to a homeless shelter or food bank simply because of who they are. The Equality Act would change all of this.
The fact is queer and trans youth will be the most impacted by The Equality Act. It's time young people do our part to make sure it becomes law this year!
Sign up to join youth4equalityact here.
