Defeat China's invasion of the U.S. Tech Industry
Global crises highlight the dangers of relying on other nations for technology workers

Dear John,
The world situation is grim today, with Russia invading Ukraine. Nobody knows how this is going to end. Meanwhile, Russia and China are becoming ever more allied.
Here at home, we're facing a completely lawless border, thanks to President Biden's reckless NON-ENFORCEMENT policies. As you know, NumbersUSA is fighting with everything we've got to restore immigration sanity to our country.
As part of that, we're fighting a House of Representatives-passed bill that would allow China (and a few other nations) to further dominate our technology industry.
The House version of the bill would import to America an UNLIMITED NUMBER of Chinese, Indian, and other foreign advanced degree holders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Doing this would have many consequences, but I'll name just three:
First, this would increase the overall numerical level of immigration while we believe the numbers need to be cut at least in half in the short-term. This is always our first consideration of any immigration proposal.
Second, American tech graduates would be squeezed out of jobs by cheaper foreign competitors. Tech workers don't deserve their jobs being given away any more than meat packers or construction workers.
Third, this bill threatens to eliminate the demand for PhDs from U.S. universities since China alone produces 50% more STEM PhD grads each year than the U.S. There are enough surplus PhDs around the world to swamp the U.S. labor market if U.S. corporations are allowed to choose the cheaper foreign PhDs over Americans.
The bill in question is called the "America COMPETES Act." But it might as well be called the America Surrenders Act. It's based on the false and dangerous notion that America can't educate and recruit tech workers from America, so we should instead import them.
NumbersUSA needs your help today. A Democratic Senator fell ill and the Senate went on break. These circumstances gave us a bit of breathing room, but our reprieve is over. When Congress returns from recess, we plan to make sure that Congress is greeted with a huge pile of letters and a backlog of phone calls opposing the America COMPETES Act. But we need your support to make sure this happens.

A fair number of our current immigrants have come from China to escape communist tyranny. Many more came in previous generations... and many of THEM faced discrimination and intolerance here. NumbersUSA condemns such bigotry and commends their bravery and resilience.
But the House version of the "America COMPETES Act" allows any entrepreneur or anyone with an advanced degree, even from a sham foreign university, to come to America, whether they're fleeing from tyranny or have very different ideas. There would be NO numerical limits overall or by country.
These programs also seem almost certain to invite the same problems we see with other work visa programs: rampant fraud and endless chain migration. And companies like Alphabet (Google), Microsoft, and Meta (Facebook) would be left up to their own discretion to consider what's good for America. These tech giants don't exactly have a great track record at looking out for what's good for America and our freedoms.
Last year, the Senate passed its own bill in an effort to make the U.S. more competitive with China, BUT it did not have the terrible immigration components of the House's America COMPETES Act. We took no position on the Senate bill, because it didn't affect immigration. Our job now is to convince Senators that they cannot support the HOUSE-passed version of the bill. We've had an early boost: the Republican co-author of the Senate bill has announced opposition to the House version.
We need you to decide to fight for America's workers, our security and our future. Because we live in a democracy, we can change the minds of our representatives... or let them know we'll remember on Election Day who stood with America, her workers, her families, and her security. And we'll also remember who didn't.
We also need you to know you can't just wait for the next election. Members of both parties have frequently sided with post-national corporate giants instead of their own constituents and they are at work right now proposing very harmful policies and legislation that will increase immigration.
As long as we rely on solely voting out whoever we decide are the "bad guys," we'll just keep electing different people who still oppose our interests. We have to make the people in Washington TODAY realize how bad their decisions are for their constituents' future, America's future and yes, their own future.
