Friend of Trevor,
------------------------------------------------------------
On Monday, Texas’ Governor Abott unlawfully instructed the state’s Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) to investigate transgender youth and prosecute their parents as "child abusers.” This directive is dangerous, and unfortunately these kinds of legislative attacks on trans youth are not new. As we track nearly 200 anti-LGBTQ bills across the country, it’s critical that we continue our work to protect trans and nonbinary young people every day. Our research shows that transgender youth who have accepting parents are less likely to attempt suicide, and that gender-affirming care can be life-saving.
In the coming days, you may hear different analyses about how this directive could be enforced and what its impact might be on the LGBTQ young people we affirm and work to protect each day. One thing is certain–Trevor is here for them, and they are not alone, right now–or ever.
Our advocates will fight this.
Our supporters and allies will rally.
Our community will show up.
Know this:
To all transgender and nonbinary young people in Texas who are feeling scared and worried right now, we will always support you in the darkest moments and continue to fight for you every day.
