John,

Throughout the beginning of 2022, with the earliest primaries of this
election cycle, we’ve been heavily focused on Texas as we fight to Flip
the South and build progressive power in a region of the country too often
ignored and written off.

Today I’m reaching out about another critical fight facing us in the
state: as we speak, Texas politicians are blatantly attacking the very
existence and identity of transgender Americans, and it’s up to us to stop
them.

“Gov. Greg Abbott told state health agencies in Texas on Tuesday that
medical treatments provided to transgender adolescents, widely
considered to be the standard of care in medicine, should be classified
as ‘child abuse’ under existing state law.” - The New York Times

Critical issues, like the rights of the LGBTQ community, show why it is so
important to Flip the South and elect progressive candidates across Texas.

With your support, candidates like Beto O’Rourke, Jessica Cisneros, Greg
Casar, and Jasmine Crockett can bring change at the local, state, and
federal levels across Texas, and have their state lead the way in
protecting LGTBQ Americans from discrimination.

Under Republican power, Texas has made headlines for all the wrong
reasons: their attacks on reproductive justice, the racist focus on
suppressing the right to vote, efforts to stop teaching America’s actual
history in public schools, and now their attacks on the rights of
transgender youth.

This is one of many steps taken by Republicans in Texas and across the
nation to erase transgender individuals and keep them from receiving the
medical care they need.

These policies threaten the very identity and existence of transgender
youth and it’s up to us to stand in solidarity with them and fight like
hell to take power away from politicians attacking them.

Transgender individuals and all LGTBQ people deserve the same protections
as any other American. That's why we need strong leaders running on a
progressive agenda in office throughout the South.

Protecting the rights of our transgender friends, neighbors and loved ones
is an important part of challenging Republican power in the South.
