Today, The Steady State (a group of more than 200 former national security professionals, including retired ambassadors, generals, intelligence officers, and diplomats) announced their endorsement of candidates who share their values, their commitment to America, and have strong national security experience. I am honored and privileged to be one of nine people receiving this endorsement.

As Russia stands on the precipice of destabilizing the world order, Congress needs dependable leaders who understand the intense challenges that are developing each day. Trump and his acolytes like Andy Harris have shown support for authoritarians like Putin and have even used the Russian playbook of lies and misinformation to divide us. It is dangerous and against our interests as a nation to encourage continued unrest and undermine trust in our government institutions and elections during a time of such grave risk to the U.S. and the world. Removing Andy Harris from Congress is now more urgent than ever.

These Ambassadors, Diplomats and Intelligence professionals from the Steady State endorsing me today recognize and understand these campaigns to cause division and undermine our democratic institutions and national cohesiveness.

They know a threat to our democracy when they see one, and they know I’m the one with the experience and leadership to confront it. I am proud to have the support of these great Americans who, like me, have devoted their professional lives to serving their country.
