Opponents of LGBT equality will take this as their cue to start spreading misinformation.

John,

Last weekend, Virginia’s freshly-elected Delegates met for the first time post-Election Day, to make some decisions that will affect the upcoming legislative session—including who will be their leader. They are: Speaker Designee Del. Eileen Filler-Corn, Majority Leader Del. Charniele Herring and Caucus Chair Del. Richard Sullivan.

This is great news for our movement to pass LGBT nondiscrimination protections, since Del. Filler-Corn has been a strong proponent of the housing and public employment bills every year that we’ve introduced them.

But in 2020, now that we have pro-LGBT majorities in both chambers, we need to go further—we need nondiscrimination protections for every LGBT Virginian in employment, housing, and public spaces.

Make sure Del. Filler-Corn and the rest of next year’s House leadership know we expect nothing less. Email them now.

Every year these protections have been delayed, LGBT Virginians have been fired, evicted, or denied service in restaurants, shops and even doctor’s offices—just for being themselves.

We can’t let this continue. Everyone should feel welcome in our Commonwealth, no matter who they are or who they love. But if LGBT Virginians aren’t fully protected from discrimination, discrimination will continue to find a way into our lives.

That’s why we need Virginia’s new pro-LGBT majority to follow what a majority of Virginians want, and pass a bipartisan, commonsense law to protect LGBT Virginians from discrimination in employment, housing, and public spaces.

Del. Filler-Corn and the rest of leadership need to hear that this is a priority for you, John.

That’s why I’m asking you to send an email and urge them to support LGBT nondiscrimination protections in 2020.

Thanks,

James Parrish,
Executive Director
