Louis DeJoy is undermining an effort to bring electric trucks to the post office.

Dear Friend,

Louis DeJoy just defied President Biden—in order to undermine an effort to electrify the post office's vehicle fleet.

DeJoy took billions of dollars of taxpayer money intended for an all-electric vehicle fleet and spent it on gas-guzzling delivery trucks that will stay on the roads and destroy the climate for decades to come.1

This is just the latest example of why Congress must rein in DeJoy’s outrageous maneuvers and save the U.S. Postal Service by passing the Postal Service Reform Act. Demand Progress is rallying support to ensure it does just that.

Will you chip in $10 to help pass the Postal Service Reform Act and save the post office?

Since DeJoy took office in 2020, on-time mail delivery has fallen to a measly 60%.4

To be clear, DeJoy’s defiance of Biden’s climate agenda makes no financial sense. While electric trucks are more expensive up front, they cost almost nothing to operate and maintain. In fact, they’d save the agency $4.3 billion in the long run.2

DeJoy’s reckless decision flies in the face of his claims that he cares about the post office's finances.

The Postal Service is a vital public institution, delivering mail even where it’s not profitable for private companies to do so, anywhere in America. Yet the agency receives no regular taxpayer funding, is under onerous financing requirements passed by a Republican Congress during the Bush administration, and is forced to compete with the likes of FedEx. The result is a financial mess that DeJoy is exploiting as part of his master plan to destroy the post office.3

The Postal Service Reform Act would not only provide much-needed funding, but it would allow retired postal workers to enroll in Medicare and end a Republican mandate that the agency cover its health care costs an absurd 75 years in advance. The two steps would save the agency $50 billion over the next decade.4

The measure has enormous bipartisan support and has already passed the House. But now one Republican—Sen. Rick Scott of Florida—is keeping it from becoming law.5 Demand Progress has helped deliver tens of thousands of messages to Congress in support of saving the post office. Now that the battle is in the Senate, it’s time to make sure that senators feel the pressure from their constituents.

Demand Progress is working to get the Postal Service Reform Act across the finish line, to fight back against Louis DeJoy’s attempt tear down this vital government service. Will you chip in?
