You won't normally find satire in the IR. But this was too good to pass up.
In the Claremont Review of Books, Michael Anton has discovered a mysterious manuscript:
Book I of Beto’s Republic ([link removed]) .
It’s a dialogue (of course), in which a rainbow-haired trans [DEL: philosopher :DEL] consultant named Wōkrates interrogates tech bigwigs as to the nature of (woke) justice. Here’s a taste:
“And what else makes one deserving?”
“Well,” Paul said, thinking it over, “to be a supporter of justice and to work for equality.”
“Yes,” I replied, “that sounds well spoken. But what if one who crushes it in the Valley while working for justice was also born to privilege?”
It’s funny. Very funny. A reenactment of Book I of the Republic filtered through the warped lens of “social justice” and identity politics today.
But like truly good satire, it gives rise to some unsettling thoughts.

** What is Scientific Knowledge Anyway? ([link removed])

Over the last two years, how many times have you heard “follow the science?”
This mantra, along with the continued rise of the "expert class" has many people wondering what the limits of science truly are.
British scientist and author Harry Collins is here to provide
some insights ([link removed]) in this wide-ranging interview in The New Atlantis.
Collins says that science is subject to the same rules as a language or a culture.
Scientific knowledge is made by people “fluent” within a shared framework and who arrive at shared results because of that shared framework.
Scientific knowledge is not, Collins says, on some higher ground of pure enlightened objectivity.
So, should we all start chanting “down with 'follow the science'!?”
Not according to Collins.
He argues that expertise—science as “craftwork with integrity”—is more important than ever. Especially in a democracy.
