“Voting is sacred.”
Hi John,
“Exercising your right to vote is critically important,” said Shannon Holsey, President of the Stockbridge Munsee Band of Mohican Indians, at the State of the Tribes Address on Tuesday.
Our Wisconsin Native Vote [[link removed]] team was proud to be at this 18th annual address, an honored Wisconsin tradition in which the tribes choose a speaker to present tribal issues and values to the legislature and people of Wisconsin. Read this article [[link removed]] for a great recap of Pres. Holsey’s speech.
The team spent the morning filming a video featuring tribal leaders from around the state, who spoke to the importance of voting – an issue very close to all of our hearts. We can’t wait to share the video with you and Native communities around Wisconsin ahead of the spring election.
Regardless of the snow and sleet, it was a truly beautiful day connecting with our partners and building stronger relationships. We are proud to work alongside the many different tribal communities to get out the Native vote.
I’ll leave you with a quote from Pres. Holsey’s speech: “The next generation of our young people are now emerging as political actors in global, regional and local debates. That is why representation truly matters, and it is so crucial to preserve the sanctity of democracy. Where diverse groups of people are included where decisions are made. That is why voting is so sacred. Because quite honestly the future lies in the choices we make today."
