My friends, I’m getting nervous. We need to step it up in a BIG way before March 1. Let me break it down:
Right now, we are seeing some of the most violent, racist, and punitive measures put in place by Texas politicians specifically.
At the same time, we have incredible DAs on the ballot who are facing tough challengers and they NEED our support to win — especially because DAs are some of the ONLY people who can fight back against these terrifying actions.
John Creuzot is in an uphill battle for reelection as Dallas County DA.
John, within the first FOUR MONTHS of being in office after he was elected in 2018, he announced he would no longer prosecute the theft of “necessary items” — a tactic used to lock up poor Black and brown people who are some of the least supported and under-resourced by Texas policies.
Not only that, he also dismissed over 1,000 cases related to marijuana possession, which has been CENTRAL to our fight at Real Justice in ending racist mass incarceration.
Joe Gonzalez is in a similar upbill battle for reelection for Bexar County DA.
As DA, he implemented an incredible cite and release program. John, after just the first TWO YEARS of being in operation, it was estimated that marijuana possession cases were down 99.6%!!!
This led to a decrease in the county jail population, while saving San Antonio residents MILLIONS of dollars in taxes.
And now, both Joe and John are standing up in support of trans kids in Texas by declining to prosecute families when their kids want to seek gender-affirming care — after the HORRENDOUS announcement from Governor Abbott in which he ordered families to be investigated for child abuse if their kids receive this critical health care.
John, it’s hard to break through the noise when it comes to local elections like these compared to federal elections, but our potential for making change at the local level is so much MORE.
My friends, I would not ask if it wasn’t urgent. I wouldn’t ask if your donation wouldn’t save the lives of people in Texas.
This team has stepped up time and time again — and I am asking, from the bottom of my heart, for you to step up now.
If you can’t afford that much, don’t worry. Just make your personal best gift. And when you give, please know that you are helping to save lives, because the work of Joe Gonzales and John Creuzot has saved lives.
They have stepped up for us and the people of Texas. Now we need to step up for them. Together, we can win in 5 days.
Let's GO!!!
