Cultural Survival sees the Bazaars as a creative solution to supporting Indigenous Peoples’ economic sovereignty and their rights to culture and freedom of expression. ** Tanzanian Government Prepares to Evict 70,000 Maasai to Make Space for Trophy Hunting and Elite Tourism
------------------------------------------------------------

On January 11, 2022, the Tanzanian government resumed contentious plans of creating a wildlife corridor that would be used for trophy hunting and tourism exclusively by the Ortello Business Company, a hunting firm owned by the United Arab Emirates’ Royal Family - a move which will involve dispossessing over 70,000 Maasai pastoralists from 1500 sq km of their ancestral land. ** CEDAW Concluding Observations Spotlight Issues Affecting Indigenous Women in Russia

Cultural Survival—in partnership with The American Indian Law Clinic of the University of Colorado and the International Indigenous Fund for Development and Solidarity “Batani”—submitted one of eleven reports on women’s rights in Russia to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) for its 80th session. Cultural Survival’s report was the only one that focused specifically on Indigenous women. CEDAW then published its concluding observations in November 2021, paying special attention to the rights of Indigenous women in the Russian Federation. Read more. ([link removed])
