Hi John,

You already received an email like this from Color Of Change in the past
week. We're sharing it again because we don't want you to miss this
crucial update.

As someone invested in ending racialized mass incarceration and the
liberation of Black communities, we wanted you to be aware that Kendrick
Fulton was sent to jail last week. Why? Because he temporarily lost his
housing accommodation.

Kendrick has already been transferred to three different facilities, and
we worry that unless the Bureau of Prisons releases him back to home
confinement ASAP, he will be sent back to federal prison.

It is cruel and inhumane to rip someone from the life that they were
creating just because they temporarily needed new housing.

With your help, we can make noise about this issue and demand that
Kendrick be released back to home confinement. His friends and family are
eager for him to return and have already offered to house him until his
new job transfer is approved.

Kendrick Fulton is being sent to county jail! Why? Because he lost his
housing.

John, Kendrick has spent the past two years at home after being
released from federal prison on home confinement. He’s been reconnecting
with his children, excelling at work where he even got a promotion, going
to church, and being a valuable member of his community. Kendrick even got
to spend Christmas with his mother for the first time in almost two
decades.

And now Kendrick is being sent to county jail for an indefinite amount of
time. Not because he violated the terms of home confinement, or harmed
anyone, but because he lost his housing accommodation.

John Kendrick was getting ready to move to Dallas for a new job
opportunity. He had put in a request for the transfer Monday, but his
interim housing fell through. And because the Bureau of Prisons doesn't
allow people with more than a year left on their sentence to stay in a
halfway house, Kendrick is being sent to JAIL while awaiting approval for
his move.

This is not a humane solution. Kendrick has loved ones who are willing to
take him in until his transfer is approved. They are begging now to keep
him out of jail.

[ [link removed] ]demand the bureaU of prisons release Kendrick!

John, the Bureau of Prisons is planning to hold Kendrick in
county jail indefinitely as he waits for his job transfer to be approved.
He won’t be able to communicate with his family and advocates, work and
make money, or take care of himself.

This situation only further demonstrates the carceral nature of home
confinement. A normal change in circumstance for someone on home
confinement can result in them being ripped from their families, friends,
and communities without hesitation.

This is why we continue to fight for clemency for all those on home
confinement like Kendrick. We need to put an end to these arbitrary and
cruel decisions made by the BOP, and instead create real stability and
pathways to freedom for people.

In the meantime, John, we need to ensure that Kendrick is not
sent to a jail so he can continue to stay safe and healthy.

We know that people will always have a better chance at surviving and
thriving when at home and surrounded by family and community. The Bureau
of Prisons has the power to allow Kendrick to continue his life, and
secure new housing, but instead, they have chosen to throw him back in a
cage.

Take action, sign the petition!
