Friend,
As Black History Month comes to an end, I think it is important that we not only look to our city’s past – but to our future as well. Richmond’s Black History is complicated. We were once the capital of the Confederacy, and now a Black man is your Mayor. Our landscape once paid homage to monuments of racism and hate, and now we’re taking them down.
As we look towards Richmond’s Black Future, I am filled with hope. This administration has been working tirelessly to usher in a future filled with equity and opportunity. From investing in infrastructure and housing, to creating more good paying jobs, our efforts are working.
I’m proud of the work we’ve been doing, and we’re not done yet. Like I said, Richmond’s Black History is complicated – but I remain hopeful.
Thank you,
Levar Stoney
Mayor of Richmond
