By popular request, in case you missed it, here is the video of our first ZOA Book Club and Advocacy Event of 2022: "Fordham University v. the hate group Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) - the Court Battle"
Featuring the Director of ZOA's Center for Law & Justice and author of the amicus brief in this case, Susan Tuchman, Esq. and the author of the Proskauer/ISGAP amicus brief in this case, Peter Fishkind, Esq., moderated by ZOA's Director of Research & Special Projects Liz Berney, Esq.
In an important ruling, the New York Appellate Division held that Fordham University correctly barred the violent hate group SJP from becoming an official campus club. The Appellate Division upheld the reasonableness of Fordham's "conclusion that the proposed [SJP] club . . . would have been affiliated with a national organization reported to have engaged in disruptive and coercive actions on other campuses, would work against, rather than enhance, [Fordham]'s commitment open dialogue and mutual learning and understanding." (In re Ahmad Awad v. Fordham Univ., 189 A.D.3d 605 (2020); leave to appeal denied (May 4, 2020).)
All of us at ZOA greatly appreciate Susan Tuchman, the ZOA Center for Law & Justice, Peter Fishkind, Proskauer/ISGAP's work on this important case, and the opportunity to learn more about this.
