** BREAKING: SPUC welcomes decision to scrap dangerous DIY home abortion scheme
------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Supporter,
I wanted to take this opportunity to share some encouraging breaking news with you.
The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) can this morning confirm that the Department of Health and Social Care has made the decision to scrap the dangerous DIY home abortion scheme.
This scheme will now be reversed, with pre-COVID regulatory requirements for the provision of chemical abortion to be reinstated.
Responses to the government's consultation on this scheme are particularly revealing:
* 70% of all respondents called for the scheme to end immediately
* 69% said the scheme had a negative impact on women's safety
* The majority of respondents (78%) considered that there are benefits in regard to safeguarding in requiring women to make at least one visit to the clinic
Reacting to the announcement, Michael Robinson, SPUC Executive Director said: βThe DIY home abortion scheme has inflicted untold damage to countless mothers and their babies. SPUC welcomes the decision to reverse this cruel policy which ignored the needs of women."
Myself and everyone else at SPUC would like to thank all of you who answered our call to stand up for women and unborn babies by responding to the consultation and/or expressing your concern to your MP/MSP/MS.
Your voices were clearly heard by the key decision-makers, over and above those of the abortion lobby, and have resulted in this dangerous policy coming to an end.
Thank you for your tireless support which makes victories like this possible.
This is not the end of the battle β disappointingly, the scheme is still being extended for the next six months, and we know that the abortion lobby will fight to keep this dangerous policy. However, today we celebrate that tireless pro-life campaigning has won out and the Government have listened to the voices that care about women and their children.
Yours in life
John Deighan
Chief Executive
