MSNBC: "That means raising taxes on 100+ million Americans!"

Mitch McConnell has been adamant about Republicans not saying what they will do if they take control of the Senate in the midterms. Last month, he even told reporters who asked, "That is a very good question, and I'll let you know when we take it back."

So it was a big screw up yesterday when the head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Sen. Rick Scott, released a platform calling to end Social Security for most seniors and raise taxes on millions of lower income Americans.

Republicans just exposed why it is SO IMPORTANT not to let them take control of the Senate.

Donate to bold progressive U.S. Senate candidates who can flip winnable red seats in Wisconsin, Ohio, Missouri, and Kentucky so we can protect and expand our Democratic Senate majority -- and end Joe Manchin's veto over our priorities in the process.

Slate Magazine's headline sums it up: This Is Exactly What Mitch McConnell Didn’t Want

McConnell knows that Republicans talking about what they'll do if they win before the election is a stupid strategy.

But Rick Scott just said the quiet part out loud.

For example, on taxes Sen. Scott's Republican platform says: "All Americans should pay some income tax to have skin in the game, even a small amount. Currently over half of Americans pay no income tax."

MSNBC's Kyle Griffin translates: "That means raising taxes on 100+ million Americans."

The Washington Post put it another way: "Rick Scott thrusts the GOP back into Romney-‘47 percent’ territory"

Then, Rick Scott's Republican platform says: "No government assistance unless you are disabled or aggressively looking for work. If you can work, but refuse to work, you cannot live off the hard work and sweat of your fellow Americans."

Media Matters' translates: "The plain reading of 'No government assistance unless you are disabled or aggressively seeking work" is the termination of Social Security.'"

McConnell wanted to keep Republicans' unpopular plans secret until after people vote. But Rick Scott just let the cat out of the bag -- and made keeping Senate Republicans in the minority more important than ever.

Thanks for being a bold progressive.
