Today, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court selected a fair congressional map submitted for consideration by voters supported by the National Redistricting Action Fund, after Republicans attempted to pass a gerrymandered map.

This is another big victory for the fair map movement. And we are proud to have helped voters in Pennsylvania present a map that fairly reflects the Commonwealth's recent population changes.

We have supported voters in six states who are challenging their state’s gerrymandered maps in court or defending fair maps from partisan attacks. Will you chip in to support all our work to fight gerrymandering?

What’s next? Map manipulators in Pennsylvania have been stopped in their tracks! The new fair map that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court selected is now slated to be the congressional map used in the upcoming 2022 midterm elections, but we must continue to monitor challenges from Republicans.

Why does this matter?In 2012, following the previous redistricting cycle, the extreme gerrymandered maps drawn by Republicans gave their party 13 of 18 seats in the Pennsylvania delegation -- despite getting significantly fewer votes in congressional elections across the state.

As A.G. Holder said in reaction to today’s news: “This is a substantial win for Pennsylvanians who now get to vote for the candidate of their choosing in fair, lawful districts for the next decade.”

As more maps are finalized across the country, we will continue to help voters at every step of the redistricting process. The fight for fair maps doesn’t end just because a commission or state legislature passes a gerrymandered map -- we’ll keep fighting until all options are exhausted.
