Finding and Responding to Grant Opportunities
Are you a small nonprofit with limited capacity and looking to find grants? Join us on February 28 from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm for a conversation about finding and responding to grant opportunities. Where can you find potential grant funders, how do you decide whether an opportunity is a good fit for your organization, and what are some steps once you find something of interest to you? Foraker Consultant and ARPA Navigator Rachel Morse will discuss how to find and evaluate government grants, with a focus on ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act of 2021) opportunities. Foraker Fund Development Consultant Amalie Couvillion will address corporate and foundation grant opportunities. The session will conclude with a Q&A.

Supportive Housing Training Series SUMMIT
In partnership with The Alaska Training Cooperative (AKTC) and United Way of Anchorage (UWA), the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority (Trust) is sponsoring a five-part series focused on supportive housing. The Supportive Housing Summit is the final virtual event of the series.
Alaska’s housing and homeless services partners have identified a need to increase housing options for people who have experienced housing disruptions. Please join us to learn how Alaskans and many non-profits nationally are creating the solution for homelessness - supportive housing!

** US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)

Tax Credit Information for HUD Assisted Individuals and Families
The Child Tax Credit (CTC) and Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) are large tax refund payments that people can receive when they file a tax return. The 2021 American Rescue Plan (ARP) expanded who can receive these payments and increased the amount of money available to many families and individuals. These tax credits are not income. Receiving these benefits will not impact eligibility for other federal benefits. The best way to receive these benefits is to file a tax return before April 18, 2022.
Service providers can support their clients in receiving these tax credits by:
1. Making sure clients are aware of the credits. See the IRS Toolkit, one pagers and flyers ([link removed]) for more information on both tax credits and easy to share resources.
2. Connecting clients to free tax filing support ([link removed]) online or via IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program centers. [link removed]


** National Low Income Housing

National Housing Trust Fund Estimated to Receive $739.6 Million in 2022
The national Housing Trust Fund (HTF) is estimated to receive $739.6 million for 2022, based on figures presented in Fannie Mae’s ([link removed]) and Freddie Mac’s ([link removed]) 10-K forms recently submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. This allocation will be a modest increase from the $689.7 million provided for 2021. Fannie and Freddie will provide this information to their conservator, the Federal Housing Finance Administration (FHFA), which will officially announce total amounts available for the HTF and the Capital Magnet Fund (CMF) in early March. FHFA will send the official HTF tabulations to HUD, which in turn will apply the total to the statutory formula for allocating HTF to each state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. territories

"I believe that ending homelessness requires all of us—Republicans and Democrats, public and private sectors, faith and business communities, mayors and city/county administrators, nonprofit service providers and advocates, people from urban, suburban, rural, and Tribal areas; and, most importantly, those who are most proximate to the issue: people who have themselves experienced the tragedies of homelessness.

Ending homelessness also requires us to do some soul searching. How do we take care of one another? What kind of society do we want to build together?"
