February marks the celebration of Black History Month. What first began as an idea to promote and educate people about Black history and culture by Carter G. Woodson in 1926 later became a month-long observance – a time to celebrate and reflect on the long list of contributions and achievements of Black Americans.
This Black History Month, we find ourselves in a critical moment for the future of reproductive rights, voting rights, and our democracy generally.
With the recent announcement that Justice Stephen Breyer will be stepping down from the Supreme Court later this year, I am pleased that President Biden has pledged to fulfill his campaign promise by nominating the very first Black female justice to our country’s highest court.
This nomination is long overdue. In the 233-year history of the Supreme Court, all but seven justices have been white men – and still not one Black woman.
If you agree with President Biden and me that it’s past time to nominate the first Black female justice to the Supreme Court, will you sign on to our petition here? Instantly add your name now.
No matter what, we need to ensure that whoever President Biden nominates, she is given a fair and swift nomination process.
Do you agree, friend? Let me know by instantly adding your name here.
Let’s make history – it’s long overdue.
