Dear Friend,
Oklahoma is sending a bill to the governor that would establish a database
of pregnant people so that state officials can track and try to deter them
from obtaining abortions.(1)
You read that correctly: A registry to shame pregnant people is about to
become law. And it is just one of the 507 anti-abortion bills being
considered across the country at this very moment.(2)
With an extremist right-wing Supreme Court about to overturn Roe v. Wade,
the only way to defeat these bills is for Congress to protect reproductive
rights, and the Senate is taking up the Women’s Health Protection Act next
week to do just that. But we need a flood of emails and calls to the
Senate to give the bill the grassroots energy it needs to become law.

Women’s Health Protection Act!
As one legislator in Oklahoma described these bills, the “ultimate goal is
ending abortion.”(3)
And when the conservative 6–3 majority of the Supreme Court is expected to
overturn Roe v. Wade in a few months, 26 states will ban abortion
immediately.(4)
Overturning Roe will have an intense impact on California, which is
expecting a staggering 2,923% increase in visits from people whose nearest
abortion provider would only be found in our state.(5) Already, abortion
funds like Courage California’s partner ACCESS REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE are
experiencing a strain on their resources as people from states such as
Texas and Utah pour in.
Congress can stop reproductive rights from being crushed in the United
States. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has planned a vote on the
Women’s Health Protection Act for February 28. The WHPA would finally
legislate the right to perform and undergo an abortion and prohibit the
raft of bans on abortion that have been passed in right-wing state
legislatures.(6) The WHPA has already passed the House of Representatives,
and we have just days to convince the Senate to do the same.
