Happening this week: A Planned Parenthood doctor on Capitol Hill / Victory for domestic workers! / #CourtsMatter.

Start Here:
So many Congressional hearings seem to be nothing more than a parade of pre-approved talking points, with the occasional made-for-TV moment of political posturing thrown in. We deserve better — especially when decisions are being made about our rights, our health, and our lives. We deserve sound science, deep compassion, and rock-solid expertise.

We're about to get it.

Today, Dr. Colleen McNicholas became the first doctor to testify on behalf of Planned Parenthood on Capitol Hill in decades. Take a moment right now to spread the word and share this message of support for Dr. McNicholas:

Dr. McNicholas is the chief medical officer at Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri — which means she is on the front lines facing one of the country's most dangerous attacks on abortion access. Just two weeks ago, a top Missouri state official admitted to investigating the periods of Planned Parenthood patients in a desperate attempt to find any basis to try to end abortion access. State politicians are abusing every bit of their power to shut down the last health center that provides abortion care in the state.

This hearing — and Dr. McNicholas's testimony — is a chance to expose these dangerous attacks on our health and rights. It's time to call out the extreme agenda of politicians like Missouri Governor Mike Parson, and defend reproductive care.

We need more voices like Dr. McNicholas's speaking truth to power — will you share our message of support to make sure people listen?

#GettingMeThrough
#GettingMeThrough this week are Philadelphia's nannies, house cleaners, and home care workers who WON a citywide Domestic Workers' Bill of Rights. After over a year of organizing, they've won paid time off, portable benefits, and basic rights for Philadelphia's 16,000 domestic workers. This makes Philadelphia the largest city in the country to extend rights to domestic workers — who are predominantly women, women of color, and immigrants.

“The Bill of Rights is important because when you miss one day of work, you still have to pay the bills. None of us have had paid time off even after so many years of working,” Maria del Carmen, a domestic worker leader, told Ms. Magazine. Read more about their victory here.
