The deadline to submit bills for the 2022-23 legislative session was February 18, and NPH has finalized our sponsored bills. We continue our advocacy with our partners and members for smart, forward-thinking affordable housing solutions in the Bay Area by sponsoring:

State Budget Asks for the May Revise: NPH will be ramping up our advocacy for more state resources to address affordable housing statewide.

The Bay Area Housing Internship Program (BAHIP) is now accepting applications to join the 2022-23 cohort!

Application closes Friday, March 25

BAHIP is a one-year, paid internship program designed to recruit and train students of color at Bay Area colleges and universities to become housing development professionals. Please forward to your networks!

Lifitng Up Impacted Tenant Voices in the News, Wednesday March 9, 12-1PM: Join us with M+R and local housing advocates to discuss  how to reach and bring in tenant voices into the media and prepare them to interview with reporters or publish opinion pieces.

Become a Stronger Advocate in Your Community: Join CAVE!

The fourth cohort of NPH’s Community Advocacy & Voter Engagement (CAVE) Professional Certification program is happening this April! (dates include 4/7, 4/28, and 5/19.)

The program will cover how to incorporate affordable housing resident voter engagement at your organization and empower residents to become advocates in their own communities.

Attention CAVE alumni from 2020-2021: Do you want to share your best practices and leadership style tips with resident services staff across the Bay Area? Apply to be a CAVE guest speaker and receive a $300 Honorarium for your participation!

 

Housing Preservation: Challenges & Opportunities

Affordable Homes At Risk: Preservation Challenges and Opportunities, Thursday March 10, 10-11:30am: Co-hosted by NPH and California Housing Partnership, and moderated by NPH Policy Director Abram Diaz, this event features nonprofit housing providers working in the trenches on affordable housing preservation discussing the obstacles they face in this work, along with local policy leads describing the proposals currently under development in Sacramento.

3/3, PBF: Accelerating Transformative & Equitable Housing Solutions Please join the Partnership for the Bay’s Future for a robust discussion about the strategies and tactics that are advancing equitable pro-housing agendas across the region.

 

3/8, SCANPH, New Research: How Housing Markets Predict Rates of Homelessness and Messaging to Dispel Conventional Beliefs A panel of experts will discuss Professor Colburn's research after a presentation to delve into how we can dispel conventional beliefs and build support for solving homelessness.

3/22-23, NLIHC Virtual Housing Policy Forum: Join the National Low Income Housing Coalition to engage with and learn from thought-leaders, policy experts, researchers, affordable housing practitioners, low-income residents, and leaders from Capitol Hill about the state of the affordable housing crisis in America and its solutions.

 

Opportunity: Funding for Electric Vehicle Charging Station Installation at Multi-Unit Dwelling Facilities A total of $7 million in grant funding will be available for organizations, including governments, businesses, and non-profits. The 2022 Charge! Program cycle will be a competitive solicitation and all complete applications will be scored and ranked. The Air District will prioritize projects that install EV charging at multi-unit dwellings and projects located in Bay Area Environmental Justice communities.

Opportunity: Apply for the Equitable Community Revitalization Grant The California Department of Toxic Substance Control is introducing the Equitable Community Revitalization Grant. Set a new path for land use that will have immediate and lasting benefits, such as recreational uses (parks and other green spaces), commercial enterprises and housing.

 

Opportunity: CORO, The Partnership for the Bay’s Future Fellowship The Partnership for the Bay’s Future Fellowship is a two-year, full-time, cohort-based, and salaried position for experienced, entrepreneurial, and equity-minded affordable housing professionals interested in leading collaborative policy making from within selected Bay Area cities. This role is suited for someone who deeply believes in the power of government to put a dent in the Bay Area’s housing crisis and has the background to do so!
