John,
Brand New Congress is proud to announce that Betsy Sweet is joining our slate of Senate candidates! She is working to oust “moderate” Republican Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) and would be joining Kimberly Graham and Paula Jean Swearengin. It’s official, we’ve got a Senate Squad!
Betsy has spent years working for campaign finance reform. Her first experience in politics was knocking on doors for the Equal Rights Amendment. More than two decades ago she helped write and pass Maine’s Family Medical Leave Act, one that our national policy is based on, and she was instrumental in writing and passing Maine’s Clean Elections Act, the first in the country, in 1996. In 2019, as an advocate in the Maine statehouse, Sweet was responsible for achieving the largest funding increase for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and she worked to ensure passage of Maine’s Death with Dignity Act.
Now Betsy is ready for the U.S. Senate!
The Senate needs a squad, John! Pitch in and support us today.
“This is a grassroots movement,” said Betsy. “Susan Collins has failed the people of Maine, and Establishment, business-as-usual politics has resulted in some of the most concerning crises of our time. We need leaders with the courage to challenge the status quo, and who are beholden to everyday people, not corporate campaign contributors.”
Collins cast a deciding vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Imagine replacing three Trumpian Republicans with three powerhouse BNC representatives. We have to change the Senate if we want to get anything done.
Welcome to the slate, Betsy!
