John,
Republicans are getting cocky.
With voter suppression bills in place in key swing states, and polling showing that voters are blaming President Biden for a pandemic prolonged by right-wing disinformation and inflation caused by corporate greed, Republicans are growing louder about what they plan to do if they gain power in this year’s midterms:1
The last time they were in power, Republicans gave a massive tax cut to the wealthy. Now, they’re crying crocodile tears about debt — as an excuse to demand cuts to Social Security and Medicare.
Mitt Romney has begun talking up his Trump-era scheme, the TRUST Act, to create a fast-tracked, closed-door, filibuster-proof commission to cut Social Security and Medicare. And Sen. Rick Scott, the head of the committee in charge of electing Republicans to the Senate , released a proposal yesterday that pledges to raise taxes on seniors — a backdoor Social Security cut. Sen. Scott, whose company committed the largest Medicare fraud in the nation’s history,2 is clearly committed to continuing the Republican war on seniors past the Trump administration.
We have about 9 months until voting begins. Everyone who casts a ballot in 2022 needs to know that Social Security and Medicare are on the ballot! Can you become a member of Social Security Works today to fund our publicity campaign?
Thanks,
