Supporting independent media is crucial in the fight to defend democracy

No observer of U.S. politics and democracy over the last half century has been more principled or insightful than the legendary journalist and broadcaster Bill Moyers.
That’s why it was so humbling when Moyers said that “Common Dreams publishes some of the best thinking going on in progressive circles these days. It is a must in my life and work.”
Bill Moyers was on the front lines of the fight for voting rights in the 1960s. He knows how fragile our democracy is and how critical it is to have independent, nonprofit journalism to inform readers and inspire action.
Today, democracy is under assault from forces that are hell-bent on making it harder to vote, from a Supreme Court that just kneecapped what’s left of the Voting Rights Act, and a from Big Lie attack on democracy that—if not defeated—could ultimately fracture the
republic.
