Jack,
Impeachment got you down? Yes it's serious. Our democracy is at risk if foreign governments are brought into compromise our elections. OWR salutes our Congresspeople taking a strong stand for democracy.
While the federal government is mired in scandal, it's really the perfect time to dig in and do what we can here at home in Wisconsin.
OWR is gearing up to focus on the April 2020 elections to bring the fight for the people right here to our backyard. We've got lots of work to do. Will you join us?
Just this week we are seeing the stark contrast of local government on the right track versus a local government that requires help from its citizen to let the sunshine in.
Did you hear about the Lafayette County Board? This is a clear example of what not to do. Are you tracking your County Board and making sure they are acting in the interests of the local people and of our environment and importantly upholding the democratic principles of free speech and freedom of the press!
Look at the Lafayette County Board this week. They made national news! But not for good reasons. They were trying to suppress information about serious water quality issues.
Compare that to the Eau Claire City Council - who let the sunshine in! They hit lots of high points this week:
-They made it easier to vote by expanding early voting and adding evening hours on election day
-They are supporting US Census 2020 efforts to count traditionally underrepresented people, including those experiencing homelessness
-They are including in their 2020 Strategic Plan a fight for living wages, workers' rights, addressing the climate crisis, reducing our dependence on automobile transportation, tackling poverty and inequality, greater equity, diversity, and inclusion, and more
We are getting meetings set up around the state to help people take a
good look at the landscape of their local governments and to dig in to
draft and support candidates that will be the superstars.
OWR knows that we can build a strong bench of leaders that will push for a bold vision in our local communities. We will never bury our heads in the sand and try to suppress the will of the people. Join us in our efforts!
