As Presidents' Day passed this week with little to no acknowledgment except that we didn't get our mail that day, it would serve all of us to sit down and read about the two Presidents for whom this day was set aside. George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, though not faultless, were statesmen, not just elected officials. Because the wellbeing of the country was always their primary concern, they put aside any notions of personal enrichment and power. Like George Washington, We’re In A Great Battle, Outcome Unknown

This toast was given in honor of George Washington at a president’s day celebration last week.

Friends, we come here this evening not to praise the likes of James Buchanan, or James Earl Carter, or other lesser presidents. We are here to praise greatness. And while there may be a few near-greats among them, there are only two presidents who make the cut.
