John,

RSVP TO COC’S FIRST #BLACKHISTORYNOW AWARDS, TODAY
Racist, sexist attacks on our education system by powerful forces show no signs of slowing down — Republican legislators have passed anti-Critical Race Theory legislation in 14 states, and have introduced it in at least 37 others.1 Dozens of these bills are based on Trump’s past executive order banning “divisive concepts” to weaken federal diversity and inclusion initiatives, and they’re being spearheaded by a right-wing think tank led by his former administration officials. Their goal is clear: to make it easier to criminalize anyone who would dare to challenge their abuse of power.
The Black History Now Awards will be a space to pay tribute to the community leaders in our lives who are fighting back. From students who are standing up to their administration to demand that they see their lives reflected in their assignments, to educators who insist on teaching the truth, even when it costs them their jobs, this event will amplify the powerful testimonies of people who have taken risks to ensure the full course of history is taught in our schools.
WHEN: Thursday, February 24, 2022, at 5PM PST/8PM EST
WHERE: The Black History Now Awards will be streaming online across COC platforms, RSVP here to receive a direct link to join us!
John, Let us know if you'll be joining us on February 24th
