Dear Maine Conservation Voter,

Clean water is the foundation of life. Healthy streams and rivers feed clean drinking water sources and welcome us to safely swim and fish. Maine’s rivers are clean thanks to strong state and federal protections.

That’s why Maine’s Environmental Priorities Coalition (EPC) [[link removed]] selected LD 1964 as one of our priority bills this legislative session. This bill will upgrade water quality standards and increase protections on more than 800 miles of rivers and streams in Maine including the West Branch of the Penobscot above Ambajejus Lake, the South Branch of the Sandy River, Orbeton Stream and its tributaries, the Little Narraguagus River, and many more. The hearing for this bill is next week.

Every three years, the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) recommends upgrades for water bodies when they should receive a higher level of protection from pollution - LD 1964 is this year’s recommendation.

Thank you so much for taking action,
