Grants to help businesses reduce energy bills

Businesses are currently facing a number of inflationary pressures, not least the rising cost of energy. The Federation of Small Businesses? latest quarterly survey reports that 45% of firms said their costs had increased in the past three months because of rising utility bills, driven by the price of energy.

It may seem like a simple solution to combat rising energy prices, but by using less energy you?ll pay less each year. Improving your premises? energy performance is an effective way to reduce your energy usage and costs. For example, changing lighting to LED can reduce the costs of powering your premises lighting by more than 50% and upgrading to more energy efficient heating or cooling systems can make a significant difference.

Making energy-efficient changes can reap tangible benefits for a small business. A recent Nat West survey revealed that almost a fifth (19%) of businesses are saving between ?2,000 and ?3,000 a year after introducing energy efficiency measures, while 35% are saving between ?1,000 and ?1,999. In a time when energy costs are on the rise, SMEs can really benefit from making such an investment.

To help with the cost of investing in energy efficiency measures, Nottingham City Council are offering grants to small and medium-sized businesses in Greater Nottingham through the Accelerating Reduction in Carbon project. The grant can provide 35% of the net costs of their purchase and installation.

Information on the support available can be found at www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/arc
