Shoot First laws make murder legal. 29 states have passed them.

John,

Shoot First laws—also known as Stand Your Ground—are deadly, reckless, and extreme.

Twenty-nine states currently have some version of Shoot First on the books—most of which were enacted as a result of a concerted effort by the NRA, the conservative policy group ALEC, and lawmakers who were beholden to the gun lobby instead of putting the safety of their constituents first.

They make murder legal. People can use deadly force as a first option rather than the last, even when they can clearly and safely walk away.

That's why we're organizing right now to do something about it. We're doubling down on our efforts to defeat any attempt to pass Shoot First laws in other states and expanding campaigns to repeal them. We need you with us. Donate $9 or more to defeat dangerous gun laws like Shoot First and fight for gun safety in America.

We call these "Shoot First" laws to more accurately and effectively describe the real world impacts. "Stand Your Ground" isn't a neutral term—it was invented by the gun lobby. It intentionally misrepresents and downplays the fact that these laws increase gun violence by emboldening people to shoot first and ask questions later.

These laws lead to more gun deaths every month nationwide. They also drastically reduce consequences for shooters and worsen anti-Black racism: Homicides in which white shooters kill Black victims have been deemed justifiable five times more frequently than when the situation is reversed.

That's why we're committed to defeating Shoot First laws. Our movement is already working with lawmakers to do away with these deadly laws in states across the country, including Pennsylvania, Florida, and Georgia.

Our communities aren't safe as long as these laws are on the books. Help us continue our critical work to end gun violence and stop the gun lobby's agenda by making a grassroots donation today.

Thank you for being a part of this movement.
